THE 1962 FERRARI 250 GTO
Sold in 2012 for 38,1 million dollars, during what is considered as the most important single car transaction in the United Kingdom and maybe in the entire world, the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, according to the Octane Magazine, was sold by the British real estate agent Jon Hunt to the influential Mexican businessman, Carlos Hank Rhon.
This GT car – powered by a Ferrari’s Tipo 168/62 V12 engine – was the 19th model of the 250 GTO, specifically produced for the 1962 Tour de France. The famous French racing driver, Jo Schlesser, had the chance to drive it finishing second at the Nürburgring 1000 km endurance race and, again, grabbing the second prize at the Rouen-Les-Essarts motor race.
Destroyed in a terrible accident in which the racing driver, Henri Oreiller, died, this Ferrari 250 GTO was completely reassembled by the Italian passionate collector Fabrizio Violati, the man who gave a second life to this supercar.
