Perched on a hilltop overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea, Ravello is a dream-like setting, imbued with an almost ethereal beauty. Considered one of most charming treasures of the well-known Amalfi Coast – like Positano and Amalfi – this little town is cherished because it is quite and removed from the joyful crowds that visit and stay in the other coast’s resorts.

The most inspiring feature of this place is, in fact, its scenic location and the breathtaking view that can be embraced from the promontory. Probably for this very asset, in 1997, UNESCO decided to include Ravello in its World Heritage Site list.
HISTORIC TREASURES…
Far away from the local main urban centers, Ravello was born, in the 5th century, as an impregnable safe haven against the numerous barbarian assaults which punctuated that time.
Since then, this town, in spite of its relatively small dimension, has occupied a place of pivotal strategic importance and represented, for a long time, an important stronghold of the Duchy of Amalfi (958–1137). Then, Ravello also became an important trading centre.
Amalfi’s splendor and grandeur explain the richness of its landscape and the historic treasures preserved in the town.
Unmissable are the Romanesque-baroque Ravello’s Duomo, built in 1086, and its numerous villas, rare examples of their rich Patrician owners’ desires, dreams and whims. In Villa Rufolo, for example, created in 1270, the eminent composer Richard Wagner partly conceived the stage design of Parsifal, one of its most significant operas.
In spite of its elevated location, Ravello can be reached with a private car through the 163 Amalfitana State Road. A drive to this Amalfi Coast’s jewel with a Ferrari California T or a Maserati Ghibli is the ultimate dream for lovers of both beauty and speed.
