The story of the city of Naples starts in the deep recesses of ancient history. Listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Naples’ colorful historic city centre is considered the largest in Europe. Up to 27 centuries of history are, thus, enclosed in 1700 hectares, in its beautifully decadent ancient palaces, in its 3 km long seafront Promenade from which walkers can admire the beauty of the Naples bay, the Castel dell’Ovo (“Egg Castle”), the Mount Vesuvius, Capri and Posillipo.
Like every Italian city, Naples is enriched by countless churches, monuments, and museums cherished by its inhabitants and by all visitors. The world-famous San Gennaro Cathedral, where the mysterious “Miracle Blood ceremony” takes place once a year, the Umberto I Gallery where tourists can find some of the city’s best pastries, the Gothic churches (San Lorenzo Maggiore and San Domenico Maggiore) as well as the Baroque church “Gesù Nuovo” are probably Naples’ most visited sites. Even though everything in Naples is worth a visit… since history dwells in every city’s corner, embellished by the golden patina of time, the fervid creativity of its inhabitants and the captivating brightness of the Mediterranean skies.
