FOR HEALTH AND STRENGTH…
Located in the green heart of South Tyrol and surrounded by mighty mountains, just at the mouth of the Passeier Valley, Merano is an alpine haven, loved and sought for its mild and sunny weather. Its SPA resorts are among the most refined ones throughout the world.
Romantic artists seeking the peace offered by an untamed nature, and famous personalities with a fragile health, often elected Merano as their shelter where they recovered strength and “joie de vivre”.
The melancholic Franz Kafka cured his tuberculosis and his sentimental pains in Merano, as did the restless Empress Elisabeth of Austria and also, later on, the American poet Ezra Pound…
A MILLENNIAL HISTORY…
Inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC, the valley in which Merano stands was occupied by the Romans in 15 BC. The clever representatives of the Roman Empire, always seeking the best, immediately understood the magical atmosphere lingering in the area.
In spite of the peaceful nature of its surroundings, Merano has always occupied a pivotal position in history. In the 13th century, it became the capital of the County of Tyrol and, subsequently, an important centre of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
A PREMIER LUXURY MOUNTAIN RESORT
Today, Merano is one of the most fashionable luxury mountain resorts in Italy and for sure, the best car to discover the area is a Maserati Levante.
Merano’s elegant beauty farms and Spa Hotels boast, in fact, fairytale locations, unparalleled service and numerous wellness and leisure facilities. Almost every local top hotel offers both indoor and outdoor pools, sport facilities, Finnish and naturist saunas, stream rooms and, last but not least, gourmet restaurants.
Well known for its local white and red wines (ex.: the red wine “Meraner Leiten”) and for a wide range of local beers, Merano’s rich gastronomy also offers typical South Tyrolean specialties, always served in beautiful wooden dining rooms, traditional rustic restaurants and lovely coffee houses.
