A new SUV: Mercedes GLB
At the end of 2019 Mercedes will launch the compact GLB SUV, based on the Class A platform with relative engine sharing.
As with the older generation, the Mercedes A-Class platform will be used for a family of derivative models: the next to debut will be the GLA crossover and the Class B minivan. Among the novelties compared to the known models there is a long SUV about 455 cm waiting in the car showrooms in December 2019, the Mercedes GLB, which we have reconstructed based on the spy photos of the test specimens. In spite of the camouflages it is evident that the GLB will have a massive appearance, thanks to the high and vertical sides, the “feet” mask and the slightly inclined roof rear pillar, although the side windows have an arched cut.
The Mercedes GLB will be a new model for the German company, which today lacks a “real” compact SUV to compete with the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Volvo XC40, which positions between the GLA and the average GLC (466 cm long) . The new model will be longer and more spacious within rivals, but as they will be available with front or all-wheel drive. Inside we will find the innovative dashboard already seen on the Mercedes A Class, consisting of two side-by-side screens (7 “or 10.25”) with the innovative MBUX multimedia system. The engines, all four-cylinder, will be the 1.3 petrol from 140 or 163 hp and the 2.0 from 224 hp, in addition to the 1.5 diesel from 116 hp and 2.0 from 194 hp. A seven-seater version should follow. Finally, under the bonnet, you can certainly see the arrival of the new generation 2.0-liter turbodiesel inaugurated on the new E-Class. As for petrol, 4-cylinder 1.4 and 1.8-liter units. Expect even the electronically controlled all-wheel drive. And we are waiting to explore it in its final form.
