New Audi A1 Sportback
A model which grows in size and style.
The new Audi A1 Sportback, is characterized by a clearer and more aggressive lines compared with the previous edition: in fact, it is distinguished by the large hexagonal grid at the front, now lower, wider and angular. On the side the ribs increase and the mudguards become more muscular, while the tail lights keep their “three-dimensional” appearance.
An inspired style – says the company – to that of the Sport quattro of 1984, to which the A1 Sportback pays tribute with details such as the three loopholes present at the apex of the mask and with the large quadrangular rear upright. On request the Led optical groups. The second generation of the German compact shares the mechanics with the sisters Volkswagen Polo and Seat Ibiza, from which it inherits the new modular platform MqbA0. the car lost the three-door body, but gained 5.6 cm in length: the overall one is 403 cm. However, the guarantee of an improved internal spaciousness is given by the step, equal to 256 cm (+9.3 cm); the trunk reaches 335 liters of volume (+65 liters) and, with the rear seatback knocked down, touches the 1,090 liters.
The interior architecture has also been completely updated: the analog tachymeter instrumentation has given way to the digital one, which uses a large 12 “panel. Then there is the screen of the infotelematic system (slightly oriented to the driver), placed at the apex of the central console: from 8.8 “to 10.1” depending on the set-ups. In any case, the infotainment can be connected to the network – and take advantage of Google Earth services and Street view – and is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard or paid security technologies include active lane keeping from 65 km / h, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control (ACC) which maintains speed and safety distance independently. In conjunction with the automatic transmission, the ACC can also provide complete vehicle shutdown in the event of crossings and subsequent restart. The rear view camera is an optional. Another notable news is the absence of cars with diesel engines: the only ones available are those turbochargers of 1, 1.5 and 2 liters of displacement, with powers from 95 to 200 hp and all compatible with the latest regulations on emissions of pollutants. The Italian price list has not yet been issued, but in Germany the A1 will have prices starting at around 20 thousand euros.
