From a concept to a reality
There is an interesting novelty in Lamborghini: Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Lamborghini, announced that the next generations of Aventador and Huracan, between 2020 and 2022, will be hybrids.
Stefano Domenicali, explained that the transition through the hybrid seems to be very necessary:
“The path of change will have an intermediate step, hybridization. It will be the driving powertrain of the future car models. One of the challenges will be the sound of cars, a highly distinctive element of our cars “.
However, there might be a problem: motors and batteries mean surely more power, but also more weight.
“The big questions are packaging and weight. Yes, this will be a silent Lamborghini, but push the accelerator and the engine will come. Silence will only last for some seconds then comes the sound” said Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini’s chief technical officier.
“As long as I’m technical director, our super sports cars will not have a turbocharged engine. It’s about emotion. If you don’t have emotion, then you have nothing” he added, according to the international media BBC Top Gear.
But then he clarified that the Lamborghini’s hybrid does not mean a total abandonment of the car manufacturer’s tradition. Both Stefano Domenicali and Maurizio Reggiani, underlined the fact that the brand’s powerful and distinctive V12 engines will not be put aside. The V12 engines will only see the addition of an electric unit, with a minimum of autonomy, very useful to increase the performance and especially useful to “comply with the increasingly stringent regulations in the field of emissions” –said Stefano Domenicali- .
Then Stefano Domenicali added on BBC Top Gears what follows: “I don’t think that the technology for a full electric Lamborghini will be ready until 2026,” (talking about the Terzo Millennio concept ) “Hybrids are a step towards that.”
So, there is still much work to do but step-by-step some concepts will be reality thanks to the professional work of engineers and mechanics.
