In England, the Jaguar Land Rover group is experimenting with a new connected technology that can reduce traffic and traffic lights. The tests are part of the UK Autodrive project, financed by the British government with 20 million pounds (over 22.5 million euro) to contribute to the development of autonomous and connected driving. The Green light optimal speed advisory (Glosa) allows the cars to “talk” with the traffic light systems, advising the driver the speed to be respected in the presence of road intersections.Amongst, the communication technology between the vehicle and the infrastructure (of made a V2X platform, ie vehicle-to-infrastructure) will also improve air quality, reducing acceleration or sudden braking near traffic lights.
So the vehicle chosen for the experimentation is the Jaguar F-Pace. Moreover, the technology under observation is based on driver assistance systems already available on the vehicle, such as Adaptive cruise control, whose functionalities are implemented by the tests. Together with the Glosa, the British group is experimenting with other related solutions to reduce traffic and improve safety: among these, the Intersection collision warning (Icw) warns the driver when it is not prudent to cross an intersection, also suggesting the order with which the vehicles should proceed. Not only that: the F-Pace signals the presence of approaching rescue vehicles and can also provide real-time information on the parking lots available nearby.
