A COOPERATION WITH ASTON MARTIN OR RED BULL?
Cosworth, the British automotive engineering group, specialized in state-of-the-art internal combustion engines, electronics and powertrain and mostly working for the biggest automotive industries around the world and the motorsport universe, could go back to Formula One with a new partner.
The news, still not confirmed, is extremely important since Cosworth already has behind itself, an extremely successful past, having collected approximately 180 wins at the Formula One championship as an engine supplier. Only Ferrari has been able to do better.
UNITY IS STRENGTH
Bruce Wood, Cosworth powertrains manager, seems to have offered a sort of confirmation on the possible new collaboration with Aston Martin, while talking to the British weekly magazine, Autosport.
«We have worked with Aston Martin for a very long time, and we are also working closely with Red Bull for the Valkyrie hypercar, therefore there is a certain logic in all this. Aston Martin has been extremely clear saying that the company wants to do something more than just badging someone else’s engine. They don’t aspire to designing it all themselves, so there’s a natural fit there and certainly that’s where some of those discussions are happening. Aston and Red Bull have a very strong relationship, so there’s definitely a desire to do something together there. Obviously Cosworth is completely independent and we need to be profitable as our number one tenant. It isn’t like when we were owned by Ford as a cost centre to put Jaguar on the F1 grid. Anything has to be profitable and certainly that is easier to do if you’re sharing those costs with someone else. As companies, we’ve all grown up competing with one another in many respects, but I think we all recognize it’s probably in everyone’s interests and probably no single individual is going to be able to do it on their own,” Bruce Wood explained.
