The Ferrari turbo V8 wins again the award “Engine of the Year”
To the Ferrari turbo V8, which equips all the 8-cylinder cars of the Maranello company, has been awarded for the third consecutive year the title of best engine in the world at the International Engine of the Year Awards 2018.
In the twentieth edition of the prize that every year attributes a series of awards to the most interesting technical solutions worldwide, Ferrari has received six awards, the highest number ever achieved in a single edition by a car manufacturer, thus bringing the number total of the prizes won by Ferrari, a record of victories among sports car manufacturers. In addition to the main recognition of the 3.9 cc and 720 hp V8 of the new Ferrari 488 Pista, the “red” brand has also excelled in the categories “From 3 to 4 liters” and “Performance Engine” and received the “Best of the Best” special nomination, by 68 international judges called to vote the best engine among all the winners of the last 20 years.
Dean Slavnich, co-chairman of the IEOTY Awards, said: ” in the 488 GTB, the 3.9-litre eight-cylinder was a near-perfect example of a high-performance turbocharged engine, setting the bar so high that it swept aside rival powertrains. But redeveloped and tweaked for the 488 Pista, the best engine in the world just got better. Without doubt, we’re looking at an engineering masterclass from Ferrari. No turbo lag, beautiful delivery, raw emotion, a furious growl and so much power. This Ferrari V8 is a work of art”.
Moreover, to complete a record year for Ferrari, the naturally aspirated V12 from 6,500 cc and 800 hp mounted on the 812 Superfast has also secured two other prizes: in the category “Over 4 liters” and, after a complete redesign of the 6,300 cc of the F12 berlinetta with 75% of new components in the “Best New Engine” category.
