Audi A3 2019
The fifth generation of the compact Audi A3 sedan is under development. Read the article to find out more about it!
The road tests of the new Audi A3 was seen by the weekly newspaper ‘Autocar’, admiring its final bodywork. This means that the development tests are at a good point, considering that the new Audi A3 should reach the market in the second half of 2019. From a technical point of view it should be an evolution of today, given the use of the same platform (the MQB), the same as all the compact cars of the Volkswagen group. Even the engines will most likely be the same petrol and diesel, with 3 or 4 cylinders, starting from the small 1.0 TFSI, but those looking for performance can rely on the gritty versions S3 and RS3, both with some more horsepower than today (they have 310 and 400). The novelty should be the presence of several hybrid versions: the basic ones equipped with the same micro-hybrid system that we will see on the VW Golf and there should also be a full-hybrid with rechargeable batteries.
The main differences compared to the current Audi A3 for sale will be found outside, where the fifth generation will have a look more muscular and gritty, while maintaining similar dimensions to today’s model: the length should in fact remain in the order of 430 cm, similar to the rivals BMW 1 Series and Mercedes Class A. In spite of the camouflage it can be seen that the A3 2019 will have a large front bezel, headlights that extend downward in a sort of inverted “L” and a rear less edgy with thin headlights that “point” towards the plate housing. The model photographed should be the sporty Audi S3, as you notice the increased rims, but the more “energetic” look will make even the versions with less powerful engines look compelling. In the cockpit we should find instead the digital instrumentation and the multimedia system with touch screen (today it manages with the wheel).
The 2019 Audi A3 will almost certainly say goodbye to the three-door body variant, but in the following months two more versions are on their way: the classic four-door sedan with the tail and a five-door sedan with a streamlined tail fastback style and the hatchback, which should take the name Sportback. Obviously, in the following months is planned the arrive of the cabriolet version.
