A NEW MARRIAGE TO SET MORE RECORDS
For Formula One’s enthusiasts, this is incredible news.
Since the companies’ official announcement, on November 29, 2017, the “Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team” is born, ready to set new records and conquer podiums.
After many leaks, the words of Sergio Marchionne, the brilliant Italian-Canadian manager who is the current CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group, as well as the Chairman and CEO of Ferrari, aroused both confidence and enthusiasm in every aficionado of the Formula One, the leading international class of single-seat auto-racing, sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
“The Alfa Romeo is now destined to write a new chapter of its unique and legendary history in the sports domain.”
The officially announced new marriage will be between Alfa Romeo – an internationally known Italian car manufacturer, founded in Milan on June 24, 1910, widely appreciated for its elegant sports cars and for having been involved in car racing since 1911 –, and Sauber Motorsport AG, founded in the Seventies by the former Swiss motorsport executive, Peter Sauber.
The Swiss company has also confirmed, through a press release, the new-born cooperation with Alfa Romeo in the sports segment of the team.
A NEW WORLD CHAMPION?
According to the first information released, the leading figure of this new winning technical and strategic merger could be the racing driver from Monte Carlo and Ferrari Driver Academy’s member, Charles Leclerc. In spite of his young age – Leclerc is only 20 years old – he already won the GP3 Series championship in 2016 as well as the 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
A HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP
“The partnership with the Sauber F1 Team represents a significant step in the revival of the Alfa Romeo’s brand, while it returns to the Formula One after a thirty-year absence. This decision gives back to the championship one of the brands that have made the history of this sport,” explains Sergio Marchionne.
The Italian company made its Formula One debut in 1950 and, even if with some interruptions, participated to the auto-racing till 1985.
